Introduction

Often when the word “faith” is mentioned, many of us instantly remove ourselves from the conversation. If that sounds familiar, this devotional was created with you in mind.

I have discovered that faith is a daily practice of believing and choosing to let that belief guide your life. It is knowing that whatever God says about you is so, and you are not waiting on God, but God is waiting on you to trust him, his process, and his divine timing. It is letting go of how you think it should work out and allowing faith to surprise you.

Faith is needed not just when it works out in your favor, but maybe even more when it does not. It is trusting that you will be victorious in the end. I have found that our faith is strongest when we are out of options. When everything has failed us, and we have no one to rely on but God, our faith will shoot up like a Chinese bamboo tree that grows 80 feet in six weeks, after 5 years of absolutely no visual growth.

In this devotional, you will read about great examples of faith from the Bible to encourage you and water your faith. Just as the Chinese bamboo needs daily watering, so does your faith.

Be blessed as we embark on this awesome journey together.

What Is Faith

Faith is the reality of what we hope for, the proof of what we don’t see. -Hebrews 11:1 (CEB)

Since we are on a journey of faith, it is only fair to let you know what I mean by “faith.”

Imagine that you have something that you want to accomplish, but you don't know how to go about it. Even when your present circumstances and environment say no, you refuse to release the idea and accept that it won't happen. It's like believing you will own your own business when you are still in a 9-to-5 job, or believing you will be well when the doctor says you are very sick. Faith is believing toward something when everything around you says it will not happen. To many, you may seem crazy and unrealistic, but that is the central theme of having faith: it’s believing when others say there is no way.

Believing in the impossible also makes you a friend of God: James 2:23 says that “Abraham believed God, and God regarded him as righteous. What is more, Abraham was called God’s friend.”

Don’t you want to be called the friend of God? The time is now to begin believing long before you can see it. You have it in you.

Prayer for today

Heavenly Father, I thank you for this day, and for granting me life. I thank you for every dream, vision, and goal you have planted inside of me. Thank you for trusting me to accomplish this task. Help me to see this task through your eyes and not through my eyes, which are so often clouded by reality, logic, limitations, and today’s challenges. Help me to know that hidden inside me is the ability to accomplish that which is before me, and that all I have to do is to believe what you have said and believe that I shall complete it in the land of the living. Amen.
