Day 1 of 3: Don’t Delay Your Liberation
”For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.”
Galatians 5:1 (NRSV)
Juneteenth is such a wild holiday to me. For two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, formerly enslaved Texan Africans were free, but they didn’t know it. Then one day, a Union general pulled up in Galveston, Texas and announced that our ancestors were free… That’s WILD, yo!
Juneteenth was NOT when we were freed; it was when we got WORD that we were free. Many of us are looking to live fully liberated lives. We want to live into the most authentic expressions of our highest selves — as we should, seeing as how authenticity is our birthright!
Yet, there are barriers, traumas, narratives that we must first eradicate in order to be free. We must make the decision — and do the work — to reject anything that does not support or nurture our freedom. Our liberation is in knowing and accepting our Truth. Anything else will delay liberation.
What’s stopping you from living your Truth? Why do you still find comfort in submitting to labels, stories, and habits that no longer serve you? Juneteenth, also known as “Jubilee Day,” is here to remind you of your freedom. You’re not free until you know you’re free.
What’s one thing you can do today to step towards your total liberation? You BEEN free, Beloved! You just didn’t know it.
Maybe it’s been two years; maybe it’s been two decades. But today, you are free to roam about the cabin. You are free to roam about the earth. You are free to:
Show up as your most authentic self.
Embrace your sexuality.
Touch yourself.
Be celibate.
Love who you wanna love.
Use your preferred pronouns.
Don’t delay your liberation! Now is your time. Be healed. Be you.
Be free.
Aśe and Amen.
