Heaven’s Like A Video Game

Day 1 of 3: Heaven’s Like Minecraft on Creative Mode

“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind.” —Isaiah 65:17

Our lives on Earth are akin to Minecraft in Survival Mode. Except worse. Under capitalism, we are forced to toil for resources and sever many of our direct connections to the land. Block by block, we break our proverbial pickaxes to build new things… only for menacing green creepers to blow up and destroy our hard work.

Oh, you spent years saving up for a new car? Awesome! The transmission blew. Also, you’re stranded on the side of the road at 11:30 PM.

Ah, you bought a new house? Surprise! The $10,000 roof is leaking. But scripture shows us that Heaven won’t be this fragile. As it is written, “For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” (2 Corinthians 5:1-5) Take heart: Though difficult to imagine now, our future is one of security and stability unlike humanity has ever known.

That’s why Heaven will be like Minecraft on Creative Mode. (Creepers need not apply.)

Envision this: You’re plopped down in Heaven like a new Minecraft character. You have access to limitless texture packs; able to download any add-on you want, create any robust world you wish, and invite any loved one you desire. Except this is really the afterlife. We are co-creators and co-laborers with Christ, after all. Also? Many Christians compare Heaven to the Garden of Eden. Like Adam and Eve in Eden at the world’s birth, why wouldn’t we help invent Heaven together? Hey Jesus: Let’s make some friendly dragons together for good measure. I want to understand how it felt to ride Drogon in Game of Thrones.

Oh, and crying? Pain? Death? Don’t know her. As the Bible says: “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying or pain.” (Revelation 21:4)…
