Christian Opposition to Anti-Trans Laws Continues to Grow

The recent legislature cycles have shown us that trans rights are the hot topic for political debate. Much of the rhetoric for those advocating for the removal of gender affirming care for kids, and adults in some areas, not just from political voices, but religious voices. However, more Christian denominations are denouncing anti-trans laws and attacks against trans and gender-expansive people’s rights through changing the way people view the “Christian stance.”

Who has the loudest voice?

Often it is easy to allow the loudest people to be the ones that set the narrative for a religious tradition. Everyday, there are a plethora of Christian pastors taking to social media to advocate for the removal or limiting of rights for transgender and gender-expansive people based on their own theological perspective. Luckily, for those who identify with the Christian tradition, but don’t find themselves in agreement with certain theological perspectives, there are other voices that are beginning to speak up at the state, national, and international level.

Most recently, on August 2, 2023, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) unanimously approved the emergency resolution GA-2352, “Invitation to Oppose Anti-Trans legislation and Affirm the Dignity of Transgender and Gender-Diverse People,” at the 2023 General Assembly…
